Lots of our patients have regular check-ups and need nothing doing except their usual session with the hygienist. We offer advice and help with prevention if needed. However, wear-and-tear, fresh decay or lack of prevention may mean treatment is needed.
Regular check-ups include measurements of the gums (stored for easy reference in our sophisticated computer system), a yearly examination for nasty 'lumps and bumps', and of course a detailed look at the teeth. Radiographs (X-rays) are a help for early and accurate diagnosis of many problems, but our staff are trained in up-to-date measures for reducing exposure.
Restorative treatment ranges through simple white or silver fillings, crowns and inlays of various sorts, bridges, veneers and root treatments.
If you would like whiter teeth we can help. Ask about our whitening service which can give you the bright smile you've always wanted!
Orthodontics, for children or adults, is available in the practice, including a limited amount of simple NHS work for children only.
Oral surgery may be needed to extract a fractured tooth or a wisdom tooth. We have a regular session with an experienced oral surgeon visiting the practice.
An Advanced Restorative session offers a dedicated service to those needing to replace teeth.
Hygienist appointments are an important element of dental care in the practice. Careful removal of stains and deposits safeguards the health of the gums and improves appearance. Treatments for inflammation and sensitivity are also provided. Every session is an opportunity for helping patients to help themselves by showing how, where and why to brush and clean more effectively.
Jaw joints sometimes cause problems, or patients may be spoiling their teeth by excessive grinding. Careful diagnosis is essential and then treatment, which may include a custom-made 'bite-guard', might be needed.
Our hygiene standards
It is in the interests of staff and patients that high standards of hygiene are maintained. A wide range of items used in the practice are disposable. Other items are sterilised after each use and great care is taken with general cleaning and other disinfection measures. Masks, rubber gloves, protective glasses and a high level of staff awareness and training, all contribute to our code of practice.
Quality control
The practice is subject to inspections and quality control exercises by various bodies. They include the local NHS Primary Care Agency and the private dental organisation, Denplan. We have a complaints procedure which we hope you will never need, but if you have any query or problem then please discuss it with us.
