Latest News:
With an eye on global warming the
surgery premises are now fully air
conditioned. We hope this will ensure
comfort during the warmer weather we
hope we will be getting.
The practice is and always has been a
no smoking zone, but with the July ban
we are keen to help advise smokers
intending to quit. Smoking is a major
risk factor for losing your teeth as it
cuts down the blood supply to the gums,
the teeth then become loose and have to
be extracted. In future people who wear
full dentures will be those who have
smoked all their lives. It is also a
major risk factor in the causation of
mouth cancer for which patients are
examined yearly. You will always be
asked if you smoke and advised on best
methods for quitting when you come for
your check-up.
We were recently visited by the NHS
Dental Reference Officer to check on our
treatments and record keeping. Dr Parker
was assessed as satisfactory in all
categories and "all patients seen
expressed satisfaction with the
treatment provided". We are currently
carrying out a survey to check patient
satisfaction so please fill in a form
when you are next at the practice.
Older News:
All x-rays at the surgery are now
digital - which means a lower exposure
to radiation and the pictures go into
the surgery computer system. They can
then be enlarged, measured, printed out
and examined in various clever,
technical ways.
We have also purchased an
air-abrasion unit which means small
cavities, mainly in children's teeth,
can be prepared without drilling. The
unit is also used to prepare lost crowns
for secure refixing.
The surgery has just celebrated its
20th anniversary with a staff lunch and
boat trip on the Thames.
Staff changes:
Sara Webster now has a young son as
well as a daughter. Tina Boonyai's son
is now a journalist in Thailand.
